Egg donation is a treatment option with high pregnancy success rates for women, who are unable for whatever reason to get pregnant with their own eggs. Eggs are donated by young and healthy women with good ovarian reserve. The resulting embryo from the fertilization of these eggs with sperm obtained from the patient’s husband/partner represents the half of the couple genetically.
For women with no egg production due to either an inherited problem, surgery, chemotherapy or early menopause, can have a baby using the egg donation procedure. Lack of sufficient ovarian function due to various reasons will eliminate the chances of reproduction. depression in some The only solution for this condition is egg donation and it is a treatment option with high pregnancy success rates.
Egg donation is performed by fertilizing the egg cells obtained from a donor via IVF method with the sperm obtained from the husband of the recipient woman, and transferring the embryo to the recipient woman’s uterus. The application is the same as in vitro fertilization treatment. The only difference is the egg obtained from a donor. Although you have used eggs from the donor, you will be the legal parents of your baby. No difference has been observed between women who become pregnant with donor eggs, who have experienced the whole pregnancy process, the birth and post-birth process and all the hormonal changes, and women that become pregnant with their own eggs in terms of maternal instinct occurred and the bond formed between the baby and mother.
It is for;
- Women who cannot achieve a pregnancy with their own eggs due to any reason (genetically with problems like Turner syndrome, gonadal dysgenesis),
- To those carryıng genetic diseases (such as X-linked genetic diseases),
- To women having a healthy uterus but entered menopause early,
- To women, who have had their ovaries removed (due to reasons such as cancer – endometriosis, infection),
- To women, whose eggs are damaged or whose egg cells are lost due to reasons such as chemotherapy – radiotherapy,
- To women in advance ages, whose egg reserve and quality are not sufficient for pregnancy,
- To women, whose is ovarian capacity has decreased at an early age,
- To women, with recurrent IVF failures.
Screening Tests for egg donation patients;
Hormone tests (such as thyroid hormone and prolactin), jaundice tests, if necessary a rubella test. Medicated uterus film (hysterosalpingography-HSG) in order to have information about the tubes and intra-uterine of the woman and sperm analysis test (semen analysis) from men may be requested. In terms of general health screening, of the recipient couple before beginning they begin the donation program. If a problem is detected in any of these, treatment is carried out before continuing further with the process.
The menstrual cycles of the recipient and the donor is synchronized. The birth control pill or similar hormone containing drugs can be administered for this. As soon as the donor starts egg maturation treatment, the recipient is also started using increasing doses of oestrogen for a period of 12-14 days. Oestrogen provides the thickening of the intrauterine layer for the implantation of the embryos to be transferred to the uterus. In addition, it is appropriate for the recipient to use folic acid and low-dose aspirin (75 or 100 mg). The spouse of the recipient gives the sperm sample on the day that the eggs of the donor are collected, and the in vitro fertilization procedure is then started. Embryo transfer takes place 3 or 5 days later. 12 days after the transfer a pregnancy test with either blood (beta hCG) or urine will give a result of the treatment.
The most important stage of egg donation treatment is the selection of the most suitable donor. We are aware of the sensitivity of our donation patients and therefore we offer you the first of many of the services on the donor selection as British Cyprus IVF centre.
Donor selection in our centre is evaluated in accordance with guidelines issued by internationally respected reproductive medicine associations (ESHRE, ASRM)
Unlike many centres, we also evaluate our donors in terms of genetic diseases that may remain hidden other than only known diseases. Today, we can perform the screening of over 230 genetic diseases of our donors via CGT, which is only performed in our center in Cyprus. Many IVF and donation centres serving in the region declare that they perform genetic screening tests (thalassemia, cystic fibrosis, etc.), which are recommended to be performed within the framework of common European standards in terms of common genetic diseases. Although these tests are expressed as genetic screening tests, they are blood tests rather than an examination in gene level. Thus, they are not the test that can give a clear answer to the questions, which are the most commonly asked by treated couples; “How safe are the eggs I received? Can an unknown genetic disease pass from the donor to our child? How good are egg donors examined for possible genetic diseases?” Another of the most important features that differentiates us is our donor diversity. Thanks to being the first centre in Cyprus and 20-years of history, we have the most powerful donor pool in terms of diversity and number, in which you can choose the features such as physical characteristics, psychological characteristics, educational level and ethnicity as you wish.
In accordance with the current legislation of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, only sperm samples obtained from a licensed sperm banks operating abroad are used in our centre for couples that are candidates for sperm donation. British Health Group prefers banks that have quality certificates in the selection of the sperm banks with many years of experience.
We apply the following processes imposed by the international quality standards when selecting our donors.
- General selection and evaluation
In egg donation treatment, the candidates that will make egg donation (donor) are first evaluated in terms of ensuring high pregnancy success in the treatment. At this stage, it is essential that the age of the candidate is in the range of 18-30 years. The second stage is passed due to the provision of the criteria such as the lack of any general health problems / complaint / bad habits, the presence of a balanced spiritual nature, being able to comply with the instructions given to her during treatment.
- Medical examination and evaluation
Questioning / examination of candidates conforming to the general selection criteria is carried out in terms of reproductive health and general systemic disorders in detail in the second stage. Required separations are made by examining the presence of conditions that may adversely affect the treatment process such as cysts, uterine fibroids and polyps.
- Examination in terms of sexually transmitted infectious diseases and serological examination
As stated in the practice guidelines of international prestigious reproductive medicine associations, routine examination of the donor in terms of blood-borne or sexually transmitted diseases (HIV, hepatitis, syphilis, etc.) and evaluation of candidates only that does not carry risk as potential donors is essential in donation treatment. In this regard, all these examination are carried out over the donors in our centre.
- Genetic examination (routine examination / advanced examinations)
At this stage, the donor candidates are screened by performing general routine tests (karyotype analysis, cystic fibrosis, thalassemia carrier tests, etc.) and it is determined whether they carry a defect in chromosome or gene level that could be found in significant rates in society and the possibility of transferring risk in this regard to the baby to be born. It is possible to screen the donor candidates in suitable conditions in terms of over 230 genetic diseases via a blood test called CGT in our clinic.
- Evaluation according to the physical / mental / educational etc. features
A candidate that successfully passed the examinations and tests stated above, and evaluated as suitable for the treatment is questioned in detail at this stage and evaluated in terms of certain physical (height, weight, hair colour, eye colour, body type, sporting activities, etc.), mental (active, outward oriented, curious, excited, positive, hobbies, etc.), educational status (college / graduate education completed, etc.) and similar criteria. Each of the parameters in question at this stage is listed so that it can be screened in accordance with the recipient’s request.
- Special requests (if any) specified by the recipient
* All egg donors are examined in detail and are evaluated for suitability by a psychologist. Our donors give a written statement that they donate their eggs, and are informed about the drugs they will use and the procedures that will be performed. The information of the donor and family is kept confidential in the egg donation procedure.
Donor matching is a very serious business in donation. We, at British Ivf Center, are working with a professional team working in this field for many years. We have a very large donor pool and detailed information of our donors is kept in a special software program. We can reach the most appropriate donors for you by entering your information to the specific software program. We choose the most similar donors for couples. The most important feature that differentiates us from other institutions is that we can reach a perfect match for you through our extensive donor database and our special program.

Blood group compatibility is important in the selection of appropriate donor for a couple. Other than that, thanks to our broad donor pool physical properties (height, weight, eye colour, skin colour, facial type), educational status (college / graduate education completed, etc.), mental abilities (active, outward oriented, curious, excited, positive) and even the hobbies of the donor can be determined in accordance with the couple’s request.
